Monday 25th
We arrived at the airport just before 9am. We got a train and a bus out so we didn't have to pay the $50 taxi fare- instead it only cost us $12 for both of us!!
The flight was fine, another quick hour long one and as we flew over Sydney we got a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House!!
When we arrived we got a horrible lunch at the airport cos we were starving, it was so minging I would rather forget about it!! Urgg!!
We decided to walk the 20 minutes to the next train station so we didn't have to pay the $24 airport fees at the train station. The weather was beautiful- not a cloud in the sky, it felt just like summer!!
We got to Mascot train station, bought our pass for the week, not an opal card but this one gets us everywhere so its pretty good and we can travel right up and down to Wollongong if we want!
We caught the train out to Edgecliff and bought a baguette from the italian deli for lunch to make up for that horrible one we didn't eat at the airport! Brandie had left the key at the hardware store so we picked it up and then let ourselves into the flat. Its nice and we have a great bedroom- with electric blanket!! Soooo happy!!
We sat in their lounge and enjoyed the sunshine and our baguette with our butter that we bought when we first arrived in Adelaide- its doing well!! $1.50 Coles finest!!
We eventually left about 5pm after a rest and headed into the city centre for a wander round. We travelled up through China Town, stopping for a hot chocolate at Max Bennings which does really good thick hot chocolate, and ended up at The Rocks where we had our first glimpse of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge!! It was magical especially with the lights of the city, can't believe we are here!!
We had a wander through The Rocks and then went down to Circular Quay and up to the Opera House. It really is an amazing view and it was such a nice evening so we sat at the Opera Kitchen which stretches alongside the Opera House and Thomas had a monstrous burger while we sat and watched the view of the bridge and Luna Park with all its lights flashing like a white beacon underneath the bridge!!
The second Thomas was finished the rain started and it got really heavy!! We legged it to the train station and got back as quickly as possible, catching a bus down to Woolworths at Double Bay so we could get some breakfast! They do the best muesli!!
Good start to Sydney and one of the highlights has go to be the double decker trains!! I didn't realise they had them- they are amazing, so big and you can get so many people on and the best part is the seats are changeable you literally move them and they change from a 4 seater set up to a 2 person if you lift them to face the other way!!! Amazing!! :)
