Bondi Beach

Wednesday 27th

Bondi Beach!!!!!
Todays the day- the sun is kind of out and its time for Bondi!!!!
But first we had a gander through the back street of Double Bay which revealed why it is known as the plastic surgery capitol of Sydney. The shops are expensive and high end boutiques, the people are obviously very rich and they all like brunch!! Having said that the area is lovely and there are some really nice health food shops, like AboutLife supermarket and a really nice toy shop (Adrienne and the Misses Bonney) that we walked past which I was too intimidated to go in- everything was really expensive!! I wanted it all!!
We got the train to the next stop, last on the line and got off at Bondi Junction!! I'd heard there was a massive Westfield shopping centre here but the weather is so nice we decided to do that after the beach!
We got the bus at the interchange and traveled down Bondi Road till we hit Campbell Parade then got off and went for a wander up the promenade. The weather was beautiful- the sun was out and although it was really windy it was a gorgeous day and everyone was out from the runners , walkers with their dogs, tourists, to groups of blokes having a beer on the beach. There were only a few people surfing- probably because it was sooo cold but it was lovely to have a wander along, it must be absolutely rammed during the summer so it was nice to enjoy it without it being too overcrowded!
We had a wander up along Hall Street which I had heard had some good places to eat for lunch. The main Campbell Parade is really trippy and not very nice so all the better places are set back from the main road. We couldn't find anything really tempting until the top of hall Street where we found Sababa which does falafel and middle eastern cuisine but has more of a street fare feel. The pittas looked amazing and they had pittas with steak so we decided on there. I had the Ayia Napa which had pesto falafel, haloumi, hummus, tahini and Thomas had Mr Big which had steak, hummus and tahini. We also got a large portion of chips which when it arrived was massive!! The meal was lush though and pretty cheap so we'll definitely be back!
We wandered back along the street and popped into Gertrude and Alice Bookstore and Cafe which was really nice and had a lovely selection of cards including a number of letterpress ones from Katie Leamon and Hammerpress. A great place to pick up some good books and have a read while enjoying something to drink and a pastry.
We wandered back up Bondi Road for a bit until we hit the organic health food shop where we had a look around until the bus came. You could grind your own peanut or almond butter which was pretty impressive or have a healthy juice!
The bus took us back to the interchange and we had a quick look at The Eastern, a building that has a ground floor restaurant- goodtime Burgers and a mexican restaurant (El Topo) at the upper level including a top beer garden for nicer weather.
The shopping centre is huge, they had everything from expensive high end stores like Chanel to french connection and sportsgirl, they also had a David Jones, Myer, Target, Coles and loads of other places including an Events Cinema and restaurants.
We walked around until everything started to close and then got a drink at Max Brenners Chocolate emporium, I wanted another hot chocolate but didn't fancy a hot drink so we both got milkshakes. It was nice to have a sit down and a chat so we wasted time there before we made our way back to the house.
I'm really enjoying Sydney, I didn't think I would like it but so far I'm enjoying our time here. Not long till Brisbane but I'm looking forward to the rest of the week here.
