Tuesday 26th
This morning we got the train into town and made our way to Paddy's Market next to Chinatown, we had heard its good for a wander round and picking up some good buys but when we got there it was closed up so we headed off to the Powerhouse Museum instead.
The weather was really weird today, raining on and off and just a bit miserable so I was glad we brought the umberella!
On our way to the museum we stopped for lunch on Harris Street at a cafe called Lush Bucket which was mentioned in the guide book. We were both pretty hungry and although the staff could have been a bit friendlier the toasted ciabatta sandwiches were really tasty! I had haloumi with fresh pesto, tomato and basil and Thomas had a breakfast ciabatta with bacon and egg.
We also bought a brownie and a lamington (Thomas' favourite new thing) for later!
The museum was just across the road and it was huge!! They had loads of really cool exhibits including a replica steam engine, built on the Newcastle model and exhibits from cars to ballroom dancing costumes, fashion, cinema, technology old and new, engines of all different types and sizes through to sustainable future technology and space tech!
There was so much to see and although we were there for 3 hours we ran out of time for the last floor which had all the space technology, robots, experiments and eco systems! We had a very quick rush round but could really have done with another hour or two to have worked our way round properly!! :( We will be back!!
When we left at 5 the rain was coming down and we hurried along the overpass next to the existing monorail station that took us out near the exhibition centre- which turned out to be where they hold tours and performances. We skimmed some wifi off McDonalds while sitting on their outdoor benches and found that Hoyts were playing Lucy in the next hr and a half. Tuesday is cheap cinema- $13 instead of $20 so we had a wander over into Ultimo which wasn't that far from where we were and went to the Broadway shopping arcade to get our tickets before having a wander round. Shopping arcades in Sydney are pretty good, there are a mix of high end shops, my priced kind of shops and then food malls and supermarkets!
Everyone in Australia loves Boost Juice Bar!! The fluorescent green cups are everywhere!! Every hand you walk past on the streets is gripping that green cup! So we decided to try our own green cup!!We opted to share a watermelon low fat drink with watermelon, sorbet, tropical fruit juice and ice. OMG it was lush!! The watermelon juice at the top was lovely!! Was a bit sorbet like at the bottom but i really liked it!!! Will be getting another!! Australians are right- Boost is mint!!!! Go green!!!!!
We bought some snacks for the cinema and then went to the top floor to watch the movie. It was an interesting choice... was really good... then a bit weird but stay with it...... what on earth... that doesn't make sense... no I don't think so....... no thats just daft...... hmmmmm ok....
Thats my synopsis.
We walked back to Central Sation passing an amazing looking building with plants growing all over it, it was really dark but I couldn't stop looking at it even though I couldn't see it properly! Sydney must be an amazing place to live if you're loaded!! There was a shopping mall at the bottom and it was right across from the Uni.
