Friday 22nd
Today we got the train into the city centre and by the time we arrived it was boiling hot!! First proper day of nice weather we have had since we arrived in Melbourne!!
I realised I was very uncomfortable in my choice of outfit so we walked to H&M which was really grand- it was converted from the old post office and was obviously the busiest part of the city!! Everyone was in there!! It was horrendous- people were crazy!!
I grabbed a t-shirt and left as quick as possible but ended up going through a side entrance which took me through a really nice looking bistro that runs alongside the side of the building- pizza looked amazing!!
After our excursion and a trip to the public loo to change my top we went for lunch at MoVida Tapas which was recommended by Emma as the best in Melbourne, there are a few more that have opened in Sydney and Melbourne and although Im sure it is really really good it just wasn't my thing. The croquettes made from silky fried artichokes were delicious and the mackerel was also nice but the anchovy was way too strong for me and the seafood and saffron pasta was overpriced stingy on the white fish and just really disappointing. Thomas had the pork and butter beans which although I didn't eat the meat I didn't think much of the butter beans! All in all would rather have tried the bistro next to H&M but I'm sure thats just my simple tastes!!
Afterwards we went to the NGV (National Gallery Victoria) to see the exhibits, our favourite was the samurai exhibit with the uniforms and prints it was really interesting and the NGV is an amazing building with its levels coiling round the main building.
From there we went for a wander up through Kings Domain, passing the music bowl, a sunken music stage in the middle of the park. We stayed there a while until the sun sank just below the buildings then carried onto the Royal Botanical Gardens.
The gardens are beautiful, massive with loads of information and areas of interest. There were lots of lakes and areas to go, would be beautiful in the summer. We had a wander taking us on a loop of the park and came out at the observatory centre next to The Shrine of Remembrance and then carried on back into town as it was now pitch black. We stopped outside the NGV to skim some wifi and found the Hoyts cinema was showing Inbetweeners 2 in half an hour. We booked the tickets and set off to La Trobe Street to the huge indoor complex with levels of shops and restaurants but the most impressive was the massive replica mill they had made that soars up through the domed roof, it looked amazing I couldn't stop looking at it!
Inbetweeners was great, thought it was going to be horrendous but it was brill, the whole cinema was in hysterics, considering it was them in Australia and they got ripped the audience still loved it!! Love going to the cinema on holiday!! :)
