Thursday 21st
Today we felt a lot more rested and ready to tackle St Kilda!
I had been looking forward to visiting St Kilda and today for the first time since arriving in Melbourne the sun had come out, dotted but it was there!!
We had some breakfast and then got the train out to Balaclava and wandered over to Acland Street where there was a small high street with lots of cafes and shops.
We had a quick wander and then went down to the beach to have a look at the promenade. The sea front is really pretty, especially the little archway you walk under before you get to the beach. We decided to grab some lunch before we walked the length of the promenade so we headed back to Acland Street to Sisters of Soul, a vegetarian restaurant that looked good, right next to 7 Apples Icre Cream Shop that supposedly is one of the places to go for ice cream in the city.
Lunch was great, I had a hot chocolate and smashed avocado on sourdough toast with a poached egg and Thomas had a watermelon and orange booster with a Big Sister breakfast with mushrooms, wilted spinach, avocado, tomatoes, sourdough toast and two poached eggs.
My avocado had feta, cracked black pepper and cherry tomatoes in it- was so good I'll definitely try making it!
After lunch we grabbed an ice cream from next door, I had kinder and white choc and cherry. Thomas had kinder bueno and Crocangello which had macademia nuts in it.
We then had a wander down to the promenade passing the giant clown entrance to the theme park which is closed this time of year. The walk was really nice and would be a lovely place to come in summer though Im sure it would be much busier! We had a walk along the pier where penguins are suppose to frequent the top but not at this time of year. The view out to Melbourne was beautiful especially with all the boats in the harbour and the sun shining.
We wander back into town along the St Kilda road and then caught a tram at random which we took to the Shrine of Remembrance.
It was a beautiful place at the top of the hill and had an amazing view out to the city which at that time of day as the sun was going down was beautiful. We had a wander round, it is a lovely place and people were running along the park edge right next to it and up and down the long avenues that led to the CBD.
As it got dark we headed off towards the CBD, the shrine leads you straight down to Fed Square and it was a nice walk into the city.
Emma had given us some recommendations for dinner-- Movida tapas, Chin Chin, Burma Lane and Mamasita but everywhere was so busy we just checked them out and grabbed some chips as we weren't starving after our huge lunch.
Tomorrow is suppose to be beautiful so we might have a wander into Kings Domain and maybe the National Art Gallery :)
