City Bikes and Riverside

Thursday 4th

We woke up a bit later again, and enjoyed the sun on the balcony before more guests arrived at the house. We met two Aussie guys, one from Melbourne and another from Tasmania (Tassie) who were over for the Comicon Convention to promote the book the Melbourne guy had written (fantasy sci-fi). They were good to talk to, told us stories of snakes and white tail spiders that live in your clothes if you leave them on the floor and brown snakes. Another couple arrived shortly afterwards from Amsterdam, they were over for 3 months before going to NZ and were planning on buying a second hand car to travel around Woofing on organic farms. The guy told us about how in Africa they had worked on a Macademia nut farm making oil but they had worked out how to make butter and were teaching the kids how to do it, supposedly it’s really nice, better than peanut butter!
We left a bit later that afternoon but decided to go for a bike ride! There are loads of city cycle bikes in Brisbane, with depots all around the city and you can register to use them for just $2 a day, plus if you use the bike and drop it at another depot within half an hour the trip is free so it’s a great scheme to travel from place to place, plus it’s a really scenic route to travel along the riverside!
As soon as we took the bikes out of the hold I was amazed hoe heavy they are! It’s hard to cycle initially but once you are moving it’s much easier!
We cycled along the river, changing our bikes twice along the way and then were planning on cycling into the CBD but the river access was closed cos they are doing it up so we decided to get the City Hopper into town and have a quick look around before getting some dinner.
The City Hopper is great and we enjoyed the trip to town. By the time we arrived we were pretty hungry so decided to grab some food. We were going to go to Wagamama in Winter Gardens Shopping Centre but instead we chose Hanaichi next door instead. It’s a sushi restaurant and it was brilliant! Really well priced and the sushi was great, especially the California rolls with crab, they were the best! Can’t wait to go back, Thomas had Lychee Ice Tea as well that was good too!!

By the time we had finished it was pitch black and everything was closed so we walked back to the ferry and caught it back along the river to Sydney Street where it stops. We jumped on the bikes since we still had them till the end of the day and cycled back along the river. It was a nice evening, though a bit chilly and it was great to be cycling, passing all the runners and dog walkers!
